Narro Privacy Policy

Effective date: 21 June 2026

Narro is a private, local-first voice journal for iPhone.

This Privacy Policy explains how Narro handles your data.

Core Principle

Narro is designed to keep your journal private. Your notes, transcripts, tasks, settings, and optional saved audio are stored locally on your device. Narro does not use a backend server for your journal content.

Narro does not provide accounts, cloud sync, advertising, analytics, telemetry, tracking, API-based journal processing, or automatic data upload.

Data Stored on Your Device

Narro may store the following data locally on your iPhone:

Audio Recordings

By default, Narro uses audio only to create your transcription.

If you choose to keep audio, the recording remains stored locally on your device until you delete it or until the selected retention period expires.

Saved audio may contain sensitive voices, background sounds, or personal information. You should keep this in mind before saving, exporting, or backing up audio.

Transcription

Narro supports Standard recognition and prepared on-device recognition modes: Fast, Balanced, and Accurate.

When you use Standard recognition, transcription uses Apple's speech recognition services and system behavior. Availability and processing may depend on your device, iOS version, language, settings, and Apple's services.

When you use a prepared on-device recognition mode, audio is processed on your device by the selected local recognition model.

Narro does not use a Narro backend server to transcribe your journal content.

Note Intelligence

Narro uses Standard note processing by default for Clean Note cleanup, title suggestions, and task suggestions.

Narro may offer Smart Cleanup as an optional local post-recognition cleanup feature where supported.

When Smart Cleanup is enabled and available, Narro may process bounded Raw Transcript and Clean Note text on device to produce conservative cleanup and suggestion outputs.

If Smart Cleanup is unavailable or fails, Narro falls back to Standard note processing and does not block Review or saving.

Narro does not use a Narro backend server for note intelligence.

Export and Backup

Narro allows user-initiated exports and sharing from the app. Exports and shares are created only when you choose to create them.

Narro does not automatically upload exported data.

Manual encrypted Narro backups are planned but are not implemented yet. When implemented, backups should be created only when you choose to create them.

If you save an export, shared file, or future backup to Files, iCloud Drive, Dropbox, Google Drive, AirDrop, a NAS, QNAP, external storage, or another destination, that copy is controlled by the destination you choose and may be subject to that provider's terms and privacy policy.

Encrypted Backups

Manual encrypted Narro backups are planned for a future update.

If you create an encrypted Narro backup in a future version, the backup may contain personal data. Encryption protects the backup, but it does not make the data anonymous.

Narro will not store your backup password and will not be able to recover it for you. If you lose the password, Narro will not be able to open the backup.

Data Deletion

You can delete notes, tasks, and saved audio inside the app. Deleting data in Narro removes the local copy from your device.

If you previously exported or backed up your data to another location, Narro cannot delete those external copies for you.

Support

If you contact support, you choose what to send.

Narro support reports are user initiated and privacy-safe by default. They do not automatically include journal entries, note content, Raw Transcript, Clean Note, audio files, retained audio, personal vocabulary, backup files, passwords, encryption keys, screenshots, or private journal content.

Support reports may include non-sensitive diagnostic information such as app version, build number, iOS version, device type, selected transcription engine, selected language, timestamp, and timezone.

Only send private content if you intentionally choose to include it.

App Permissions

Narro may request access to:

App Lock uses Apple's LocalAuthentication system. It is a privacy screen for app access, not encrypted storage.

Data Collection

Narro does not collect your journal content on Narro servers.

Narro does not use advertising, tracking, analytics, or telemetry in the app.

Narro does not require accounts and does not provide cloud sync.

If you intentionally send a support email, share an export, AirDrop a file, save data to cloud storage, or use another external destination, that external copy or message is controlled by the destination you choose.

Your Rights

Because Narro does not use accounts and does not receive your journal content, most access, export, and deletion actions are handled directly inside the app.
